Autumn 2019

keadby bridge

Our first topic is about Keadby and its history. We will be finding out all about the bridge and writing our very own postcards to residents in local care homes.

We went on a walk to look at the bridge. We had some wonderful discussions about the river, what the bridge is made of and what shapes we could see.

We found out some great facts about the bridge- ASK US!

In teams, we have made our very own bridges. We investigated the strongest shape for the job whilst learning some shape knowledge. We all worked really well in teams and produced some AMAZING bridges!

Great Fire of London

We've been learning about The Great Fire of London. We had an amazing time making Tudor houses and then setting them on fire in Bramble Bank Wood. We wrote some incredible diary entries and newspaper reports. Take a look at our displays in our classroom and corridor.

Baking for Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

This is our AMAZING cake for Macmillan Cancer Coffee afternoon. WE baked a moist chocolate cake and covered it in salted caramel buttercream. We worked really hard with Mrs White to create our London Bus based on a sotry called The Tower Bridge Cat. In the story a London bus flew over Tower bridge as the bascules were opening!

Place Value

Here we have an example of our fabulous place value work. We create a number museum for year 1 children to come and visit. Mrs White even let us write on the tables!

The Dot

We have been looking at a lovely book called The Dot by Peter H Reynolds. We have done some lovely artwork using soft pastels.

Billy Goats Gruff

Ask us some of the vocabulary we have learnt to describe the troll in this story.

We are writing our own stories and changing the characters. Some of us have adorable rabbits, some of us have magical unicorns and Mrs White has bonny ponies in her story.

We have been tasting fruit from exotic countires as a start to our learning about harvest. We really enjoyed the kiwi and cantaloupe melon, but didn't enjoy the cherimoya or papaya.

We asked all the children which was their favourite fruit and made tally charts. Then Mrs White set us a challenge to create a graph to show the results.

Guy Fawkes

We have been learning about Guy fawkes this week. Ask us some facts!
