Autumn Term 2016

During our work in Bramblebank woods this week we have been busy making a home for a hedgehog.

We must have done a good job because as we were working our first guest arrived!

We used clay and twigs during our work in Bramblebank woods to make our own hedgehog friends.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

To celebrate British Food Fortnight and also help to raise money to support the Macmillian coffee afternoon we made fruit scones.

Making Scarecrows

We have been busy making scarecrows for the Festival of the Plough.

New Beginnings

Throughout our first week we have been thinking about how to make our classroom a happy, fun place where everyone can learn.

We decided that in year 2 we will...

  • be kind and thoughtful
  • listen
  • sit still
  • keep our hands to ourselves
  • work as a team
  • eat healthy food
  • try our best

World Food Day

To celebrate World Food Day we took part in a school cooking challenge.  We enjoyed using the ingredients we were given to make a cheese frittata.  We used maps to find Spain and researched different facts about the country.

Our Senses Walk

As part of our work on the senses we spent time in Bramblebank woods thinking about what we could see, hear, smell and feel.  We then wrote poems about our ideas.

Super Humans

Over the next few weeks we are going to be learning about our bodies.

In Science, we'll be finding out:

  • what the main external parts of the body are called
  • what the five human senses are
  • how we can see, hear, smell, taste and touch
  • how the brain connects to other body parts
  • how to eat healthy and get enough exercise
  • how and why we use medicines
  • why body hygiene is important

In Technology, we'll be finding out:

  • how to plan and prepare a healthy meal

In International, we'll be finding out:

  • what malaria is and how we can prevent it
  • if we can improve the health of the world's children
