Spring Term 2016

Happy New Year!

For the first half of the Spring Term we will be continuing with our Rainforest topic. Our exit point will involve us planning and delivering a lunchtime fundraiser to raise money to adopt a Jaguar with the WWF. We are all very excited and are planning names already, as we are sure we will raise enough money!

We also have our Easter play to look forward to - Panto Pandemonium! Auditions are beginning very soon and we are all extremely looking forward to taking part!

Year 3 and 4 had their exit point on the 4th February 2016 to raise money to sponsor a jaguar in the Amazon rainforest. We have been talking about why we should sponsor a jaguar to stop it from becoming extinct. We spent all morning preparing a wide range of stalls and activities for the whole school. It was a huge success because we raised £126! We are now able to sponsor not only 1, but 2 jaguars! We are all extremely proud of ourselves.

For World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March 2016, we all dressed up as characters from Alice in Wonderland, as part of our theme for the week. We had a fantastic day with lots of Wonderland-related activities and a fancy teaparty in the afternoon, including our very own chocolate brownies we had made!

Maths Day

On our first day back, we all took part in a special maths day where we had to plan a holiday within a certain budget. We all managed to stick to our budget, even though we did have to decide whether we really needed to buy a DVD player to take camping!

We used a range of maths skills but were mainly using addition and subtraction, using the methods we have been learning in class. We had lots of fun.

Our new IPC topic is: HOW HUMANS WORK.

During this unit we will be focusing on Science, Technology and International.

In Science, we’ll be finding out:

• That we need light in order to see

• How we can make and hear sounds

• How human teeth compare to animal teeth

• How our body uses food and water

• How our heart works to keep us alive

• All about skeletons and muscles

• About the human life cycle

• Why exercise is good for us

• How tobacco and alcohol harm the body

• Which foods keep us healthy and why

In Technology, we’ll be finding out:

• How to plan and prepare a healthy meal

In International, we’ll be finding out:

• About people’s health problems

On the 22nd February 2016, we had our entry point for our new topic. We had a special visit from Doctor Coughalot and took part in lots of fun activities to find out what we knew already about the human body and what we wanted to find out.
