Autumn Term 2015

New Materials

We are currently looking at different materials with their different properties.

We have mixed, melted, made different solutions and have examined different scientific vocabulary to explain our observations.

In numeracy we have recently looked at fractions and mutiplying/dividing by 10 and 100.  We are now going to revise how to use a protractor, to measure and estimate different types of angles,

Keeping Safe

Year 5 had the privelege of learning how to stay safe online by a specalist from our local area.  Workshops enabled them to evaluate their learning and think how they could apply their new knowledge to benefit themselves and the school.  We hope as a year group, to be pioneers for our School in assisting the whole school to keep safe online.

website photochristingel

Year 5 had the opportunity to make their own Christingle and took part in a whole school afternoon assembly, celebrating the origin and meaning of Christingle.

In literacy we are currrently reading and writing a non-chronological report on a mythical creature.  We are focusing on the Griffin, exploring our own ideas and interpretation of the creature.

Class Book

Our class book for this term is 'Arthur: High King of Britain' by 'Michael Morpurgo'.  This is an exciting fictional novel about knights and valour set in a period from Contempory to the Middle Ages.

Art Day

On 23rd November, Year 5 took part in a whole school art day based on the theme of Winter.  We looked at examples from other artists such as Kardinsky and Monet, producing our own pieces utilising our IPC knowledge on New Materials.

Christmas Class Song

Year 5's Christmas song this year is 'Oh Little Town of Bethlehem'.  We will be performing this with 'Away in a Manger' and 'Silent Night' at our Key Stage 2 Christmas Carol Service.

Year 5 took part in the annual school Advent Spiral, where we celebrated the light we could all add to the World.
