This half term our topics are 'Brainwaves' and 'The Holiday Show'.
In Brainwaves we will be learning about:

  • Recent research into the brain and learning
  • Different areas of the brain and how they function
  • Different ways we learn
  • How we can improve our learning and attitude to learning through a growth mindset
  • The importance of co-operation and global awareness
Year 5 2016

Our year 5 class

Year 5 visited the John Wesley Memorial Methodist Church and the Old Rectory in Epworth where we found out about John Wesley's life, how to make a medicinal poultice and how to write using a slate board. What a wonderful time we had!

As part of British Food Fortnight, Y5 and Y6 have been learning how to bake scones. They were delicious!

The Holiday Show

In geography we will be learning:

  • About a tourist attraction in our area
  • How maps can give us tourist information
  • About tourism and its impact on regions, countries and cultures
  • How we can create an eco-friendly, sustainable holiday resort

In history we will be learning:

  • How to create a historical tour of our local area

In technology we will be learning:

  • How to evaluate materials used to market holidays
  • How to create our own marketing materials to sell a holiday
  • ​In music we will be learning:

  • About music from different countries around the world

In international we will be learning:

  • What makes a good global traveller
  • How to create a welcome pack for our school / local area

 

During world food day, year 5 created a Key Lime Pie and learned a lot about America.

Bollywood dancing during Diwali week

Year 5 have been having some extraordinary music sessions with Gary and Sam and have composed these ethical pieces based on the stained glass windows of Althorpe Methodist Chapel (our local history study).

Measures Investigation

Year 5 created giants on the playground during our measures investigation. We had to use appropriate equipment, measure accurately and then multiply our measurements by 3 to create our 'giant' proportions.
