Summer Term 2021

Book Week Book Trail

Keeping our times table skills sharp

This week we picked the leeks we have grown in the allotment and used them to make leek and potato soup. It tasted delicious!

In Y6 we enjoy sharing non-fiction books and newspapers with our friends.

Our green-fingered gardeners have been busy this week in the allotment weeding and planting peas. Our leeks are ready to harvest so we are busy thinking about ways to cook them

Investigating why birds have different shaped beaks

This week in Science we have been learning about fossils and Mary Anning. We wrote a script for a television interview with Miss Anning where she described her interest in fossils and her greatest discoveries. Then, we videoed ourselves infront of a green screen and added a studio background.

Bikeability

This week we have been learning about what the Vikings ate and how they prepared their food. We made butter using the same method as the Vikings, although we used jam jars instead of wooden butter churns. It was great fun!

This half term in art we are looking at the Impressionist artists. Today we looked at examples of their work, thinking about the subject, use of colour and brush strokes. We found out they preferred to paint outdoors and were interested in light. After experimenting with colour mixing and different brush strokes, we imitated their style.

Following on from this, we wrote a biography of Claude Monet, using keynote on the ipads.
