Welcome to Year 1

Hello and welcome to our class page.

We enjoy a practical, hands on approach to learning and complete activities linked the National Curriculum.

I am Mrs Tong and I am the Class Teacher

Miss Rusling is our wonderful Teaching Assistant, together we make your learning purposeful, fun and memorable.

Things that you will need to know...

Our PE day is Tuesday but it would be best if PE kits are left at school all week.

We will be using BrambleBank Wood for parts of our learning and will embrace the opportunities that it provides.

We ask for a contribution of £1.50 every half term towards class snacks.

What will we be learning...

Autumn Term

We will be Time Travellers and will enjoy finding out about:

Our local village and the history of Keadby Bridge.

Events in our own lives.

Events that have happened in the past.

How to create a timeline.

What the word history really means.

We will also be...

 Investigating different materials

Investigating number, place value adding and subtracting.

Introducing the remaining phase 3 sounds before moving onto alternative vowel digraphs during phonics.

FInding out about different artists and the way that they mix colours.

Enjoy playing team games with a focus on sportsmanship, spatial awareness, throwing and catching.

Spring Term

We will be investigating the changes in seasons and looking forward to the winter changing to spring.

We will be continuing to build phonic families and looking at alternative vowel sounds.

In History we will be taking about people who are special to us and looking at how we have changed over time.

We will be using the Sunflower Art as an inspiration for our artwork and investigating food in Design Technology.

In Geography we will be finding out about the four countries that make up the UK and comparing the UK to China, linked to Chinese New Year.

Summer Term

During Science we will be investitagting animals; comparing humans and animals and discovering the further changes within the seasonal cycle.

During Maths we will continue to work on place value up to 100 and will start to multiply amounts. We will recap 2D and 3D shape and will investigate length and capacity.

During English we will be writing instructions, making maps and writing letters to post in a bottle.

We will be revisiting the four countries that make up the UK and finding out physical and human features of our capital city and compare it to another country.

During History we will be linking back to significant events with linked learning to London and the First Man on the Moon.

During Art we will be focusing collage and looking at Matisse and his style of work. During DT we will be focussing on the skill of peeling and chopping and making fruit kebabs
